In this thesis, twenty-two new compounds were synthesized. Their crystal structures were determined by X-ray diffraction method. 1 Coordination polymers containing imidazoles:Ten coordination polymers, namely [CuL'(IN)2(H2O)2] 4H2O 1, 1, 1'-(1, 4-butanediyl)bis(imidazole), IN = isonicotinate anion, tos = 4-methylbenzenesulfonate anion, were obtained from self-assembly of the corresponding metal salts with corresponding ligands. In 4 two (4,4) networks are interpenetrated in parallel mode to form a layer. This interpenetration is different from those in reported compounds. The compound 7 crystallizes in the interesting acentric space group Pna21 which belongs to the crystal class mm2 and displays unprecedented four-connected topology of 86 net in coordination polymer chemistry. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first molecular architecture with unprecedented topology of four-connected 86 net.2 Transition metal phosphonates with new type of hydrogen-bonding layered structuresIn this work, a series of divalent transition metal phosphonates with new remarkable layered structures constructed by hydrogen bonds, namely [M(phen)3] C6H5PO3 11H2O [M=Co 11, Ni 12, Cu 13] and [Cd(phen)3] C6H5PO3H Cl 7H2O 14 have been synthesized, structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. In the crystal structures the phenylphosphonate anions didn't coordinate to the centralmetal, and are hydrogen-bonded with water molecules to form unusual layers.3 Metal sulfonate complexes with o-phenanthrolineIn this work, eight new complexes, namely [Cu(phen)(L4)(H2O)2]L4 H2O 15, [Mn(phen)2(L4)2]C2H5OH 16, [M(phen)2(H2O)2]2L4 6H2O [M = Co(17), Ni(18), Zn(19), Cd(20)], [Zn(phen)2(H2O)2]2L5 H2O 21 and [Cu2(phen)2(L5)2(H2O)4]2L5 6H2O 22, where HL4 = 4-methylbenzenesulfonic acid, HL5 = 4-aminobenzenesulfonic acid and phen = o-phenanthroline, have been synthesized. Their crystal structures were determined, and the electrochemistry of these compounds were studied by CV.
