In this paper, eighteen coordination polymers containing flexible bisimidazole ligands were successfully synthesized. Their crystal structures were determined by X–ray diffraction method and discussed systematically.1. Coordination polymers of transition metal carboxylates with flexible bisimidazole ligandsEleven new compounds, namely [CuL1(biim-6)]·H2O (1), [ZnL1(biim-6) ]·H2O (2), [CoL1(biim-6)]·H2O (3), [MnL1(biim-6)]·H2O (4), [MnL1(biim-4)] (5), [Co2(L2)2(biim-5)3(H2O)6]·8H2O (6), [ZnL3(biim-6)] (7), [ZnL3(biim-5)] (8), [CdL3(biim-5)(H2O)]·H2O (9), [CdL4(biim-5)]·H2O (10), [CdL5(biim-6)(H2O)2] (11) (L1 = oxalate anion, L2 = fumarate anion, L3 = phthalate anion, L4 = m-phthalate anion, L5 = p-phthalate anion, biim-4 = 1,1'-(1,4-butanediyl)bis(imidazole), biim-5 = 1,1'-(1,5-pentane- didyl)bis(imidazole), biim-6 = 1,1'-(1,6-hexanedidyl)bis(imidazole) were synthesized. In these compounds, compounds 1–4 are isomorphous, and display 2D polymeric structures. Compound 5 shows a threefold interpenetrating (66) framework. In compound 6, the anions act as counterions, and the metal cations are bridged by the bisimidazole ligands to form 1D polymeric chains. Compounds 7-11 show 2D polymeric structures.2. Coordination polymers of copper(II) sulfonates with flexible bisimidazole ligands Seven new compounds [Cu(biim-4)2(L6)2] (12), [Cu(biim-4)2(L7)2] (13),[Cu(biim-4)2(H2O)](L8)2·H2O (14), [Cu(L9)2](biim-4)·8H2O (15), [Cu(biim-4)1.5 (H2O)3]- (L10)·2H2O (16), [Cu(biim-6)3](L6)2 (17), [Cu(biim-6)3](L7)2·H2O (18) (L6 = 3-aminoz-4- methylbenzenesulfonate anion, L7 = 2-amino-3,5-dimethylbenzenesulfonate anion, L8 = 4-amino-2,5-dichlorobenzenesulfonate anion, L9 = 8-hydroxy-quinoline-5-sulfonate anion, L10 = 1,5-naphthenedisulfonate anion) were synthesized. In these compounds, compounds 12–14 and 17–18 show 2D polymeric structures. Compounds 15 and 16 display 3D supramolecular structures. There exist channels in the structures of compounds 14, 17 and 18. Thermogravimetric analyses (TGA) for compounds 14–18 are discussed.
