Having flexible software and hardware, the CNC (Computer numerical control) system of Open Architecture is convenient to be renewed and therefore suitable for FMS and CIMS circumstance, which represents the orientation of CNC technology. Based on the object-oriented analysis of CNC system, the paper proposes a design idea of PC-based CNC system. On the design of hardware, the environment of open CNC system is set up with the best use of the hardware resource of a PC computer itself and connecting with the card purchased by market. On the design of software, in the windows environment, this paper realizes the DIY of software in the design method of modularization structure by the development tool of Visual C++, which materializes the basic idea of open system structure. Based on the structure design of CNC system, first, the paper develops the hardware and software of some parts of CNC system such as position detecting circuit, translation code and MMI. Second, the paper discusses the engineering application of PID control method in CNC system, and discusses the realization method of position control in CNC system in theory. On the basis of theory and practice, the paper study the linear interpolation method of 4-axis CNC center, and a time-based planing algorithm of cutter trace is put forward, which has much value in use.
