In this thesis, nine novel cobalt, nickel, copper, and palladium complexes bearing [N,O] ligands have been synthesized and characterized. The crystal structures of nine complexes have been confirmed by the single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. These complexes are applied to catalyze vinyl polymerization of norbornene (NB). The catalytic behaviors for NB are researched in detail under the polymerization parameters such as Al/M ratio (M= Co, Ni, Cu, Pd), reaction temperature, reaction time and monomer concentration. At the same time, the structures and properties of polynorbornene (PNB) are characterized. The major research works are summarized as follows:1. The series of cobalt, nickel., copper and palladium complexes (complexes 1-7) supported by three kinds of [N,O] ligands (La1, La2, La3) have been synthesized and characterized. All ligands are characterized by element analysis, IR detecting,1HNMR and MS. The crystal structures of all complexes have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. All complexes are also characterized by element analysis and IR.2. The nickel complexes (complexes 8 and 9) supported by the phenoxy-imine ligands (W1 and W2) have been synthesized and characterized. All ligands are characterized by element analysis, IR,1HNMR and 13CNMR. Complexes 8 and 9 have been determined by element analysis, IR detecting and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In the end, we ensure that the complexes is our target.3. After activation with MAO, the complexes (complexes 1-9) are applied to catalyze polymerization of NB. Palladium complexes (complexes 2,4 and 7) and nickel complexes (complexes 8 and 9) have catalytic activities. Cobalt and copper complexes have lower catalytic activities. So complexes 2,4,7,8 and 9 are investigated for the polymerization of NB with various polymerization parameters. The catalytic activities are up to 107 gPNB·molM-1·h-1.
