Since the 21st Century, in addition to the continued industrialization and the development of science and technology along with the continued expansion of the range of human beings’ practices of production and living, ecological issues have gradually drawn more attention. Even the report to the Eighteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposes the goal of promoting green, circular and low-carbon development and building a beautiful country. Yunnan ethnic minorities’ecological culture is the most important content of Yunnan ethnic minorities’culture. Without doubt, examining and exploring Yunnan ethnic minorities’ ecological culture will support the building of our country’s ecological civilization and the realization of this goal of building a beautiful country.This thesis consists of five chapters:the first chapter is an introductory chapter; it introduces this thesis’s research background, purpose, meaning, research methodology and innovative points. It mainly discusses domestic scholars’current research status of Yunnan ethnic minorities’ecological culture; the second chapter elaborates the formation and development of Marx and Engels’ecological thought. This chapter comprehensively discusses the main content of Marx and Engels’ecological thought. It analyses their thought’s theoretical connotation of the essential unity of man and nature, the integration of developing and reviving nature and regards both enjoyment and conservation of natural resources as equal important. The third chapter uses Marx and Engels’ecological thought as a theoretical basis. It discusses the ecological knowledge of Yunnan ethnic minorities in their slash-and-burn cultivation and their traditional material culture of rice cultivation. The fourth chapter links relevant of Marx and Engels’theoretical basis, comprehensively applying the theories of Marx’s original religious view and cultural view. This chapter systematically disentangles the revere and respect present in Yunnan ethnic minorities’original religions, myths and oral literature and the ecological spirit of respecting nature, of man and nature sharing the same origins and of harmonious coexistence of nature and man. The fifth chapter discusses the ecological connotations of Yunnan ethnic minorities’system of culture. It applies Marx and Engels’ ecological theories in analyzing the ecological standard and the ecological restrictive function in Yunnan ethnic minorities’taboos, regulations and ritual systems.This assessment is going to find out ways to solve ecological problems that we are facing at present, through the research on the theory of Marxist ecological theories and the ethnic minorities in Yunnan province. It focuses on material culture, spiritual culture, and institutional culture of the ethnic minorities in Yunnan province. In this assessment, it also shows the Marxist ecological thought with comparatively higher theoretical and practical value at research on the culture of ethnic minorities, and the sustainable development of ethnic minorities. The Marxist ecological thought provides the direction and new idea for research on ecological culture of the ethnic minorities.
