The Application Study Of Using Reconsolidated Bamboo In Chair Design

Reconsolidated bamboo is a new species of wood-based panel made from bamboo. With the maturity of manufacturing technique, the increasing tension of wood resources, the popularity of green design conception, the reconsolidated bamboo had been a substitute for wood resources and widely used in industries of floorboard, interior decoration, architecture and landscape garden for it’s fine physical and mechanical properties. But the reconsolidated bamboo was little used in furniture industry which just used as the material of pseudo-classic furniture. This article analyze and sum up it’s basic properties, such as physical and mechanical properties, processability, external appearances, economy and so on. The application of using reconsolidated bamboo in chair design to provide references and examples for extensive usages in the future.The external appearances of reconsolidated bamboo have greet influences on chair form design. Reconsolidated bamboo’s artificial color could be got through the technology of painting and dyeing. Combined with it’s own color, reconsolidated bamboo have lots of color. Reconsolidated bamboo’s veins can be enriched by process of drawbench, distressed skill and carve. Different texture on chair can be got from man-made texture and it’s own texture. Reconsolidated bamboo’s comfortable cold-hot sensation, harder stiffiness, harsh feeling and weight sense could be directly or combined with other tactile sensations of wood, metal and fabric, used in function interface design of chair.Reconsolidated bamboo has three main kinds of whole structure forms which are stationary type, reassembling type and folding type, and three kinds of attended modes which are tenon joint, enlace joint and fastenings joint. It is necessary to improve the bond strength by the way of increasing the roughness and contact area of rabbet and mortise, combining diverse attended mode in the joint of tenuity form components.Reconsolidated bamboo can be applied to chair design of tenuity form based on above-mentioned research and discussion. It is practicability to use reconsolidated bamboo in furniture by displaying impression drawing of chair design.
