The household solid waste classification promotes the process of the reducing, resource recovery and harmlessness of the waste. And it brings many economic andenvironmental benefits. The classification and collection of household solid waste has beenpromoted in some living communities in Suzhou since2000. The benefits of theclassification and collection of household waste was quantified according to the wasteclassification management plan in Suzhou in this paper. The situation of the waste classification at home and abroad was analyzed in thispaper. Through the comparation about the different models which were used to analyze thebenefits of waste administration, the life cycle assessment model was chose to analyze thebenefit of the classification and collection of the household waste in Suzhou. The life cycleassessment (LCA) model was bulit, and software Simapro was used in LCA on the basis offive different management inventory lists, the benefit of different classified modes wasquantified from the aspects of environmental impact index, environmental impactcategories and the complex compact according to the result of LCA, the main results wereas follows.(1) The benefits of the landfill after the three-different-classification: compared withthe mixed collection, the influence of the landfill in the toxicity of the human body, respiratory organic, respiratory inorganic, climate change, ozone layer, ecotoxicity, eutrophication, minerals and the fossil fuels is reduced by40.4%,16.3%,46.6%,12.3%,54.9%,40.3%,21.8%,37.5%and120.2%; and the influence in human health, ecosystemquality and resource consumption is reduced by25.7%,31.5%and158.5%respectively;the complex influence is reduced5.4mpt; after the three-different-classification.(2) The benefits of the incineration after the three-different-classification: comparedwith the mixed collection, the influence of the incineration in the toxicity of the humanbody, respiratory organic, respiratory inorganic, climate change, ozone layer, ecotoxicity, eutrophication, minerals and the fossil fuels is reduced by44.7%,34.8%,9.3%,55.2%,47%,30.6%,40.8%and57.1%; and the influence in human health, ecosystem quality andresource consumption is reduced by48.1%,49.2%and101.95%; the complex influence isreduced4.49mpt; after the three-different-classification.(3) The benefits of the incineration after the four-different-classification: comparedwith the mixed collection, the influence of the incineration in the toxicity of the human body, respiratory organic, respiratory inorganic, climate change, ozone layer, ecotoxicity, eutrophication, minerals and the fossil fuels is reduced by114.7%,89.4%,55.4%,100%,122.6%,97.87%and87%; and the influence in human health and resource consumption isreduced by39%and99.6%; the complex influence is reduced7.59mpt; afterfour-different-classification method.(4) The benefit of the classification of kitchen waste: compared with thethree-different-classification method, the influence of the incineration in the toxicity of thehuman body, respiratory organic, respiratory inorganic, climate change, ozone layer, ecotoxicity, eutrophication, minerals and the fossil fuels is reduced by126.6%,83.7%,50.9%,100%,142.6%,96.41%and69.6%a; and the influence in resource consumption isreduced by77%;the complex influence is reduced3.1mpt;after four-different-classificationmethod.
