In recent years, with the rapid development of digital printing industry, nesting issues of digital printing are becoming increasingly important. On the one hand, enhancing the effect on nesting will bring significant economic benefits on usage of fabric, greatly reducing waste of fabric;on the other hand, in current digital printing industry,nesting procedure is finished by skilled workers, and manually operating is time-consuming, which will reduce the productivity of the factory.Therefore, it is necessary to get a system to automate nesting.The traditional two-dimensional nesting algorithms are focused on general nesting problem, which can not be directly applied to digital printing environment.There is little research literature on the nesting issue devoted to digital printing scenarios. In digital printing environment,there are some special requirements, such as the pieces can not be rotated, rectangular pieces and irregular pieces are packed seperately. This article discusses the two types of nesting problem of digital printing scenarios, rectangular pieces and irregular pieces, and propose solutions respectively: propose an improved search algorithm based on the lowest horizontal segment for rectangular piece; for irregular pieces,two algorithms named GRASP heuristic algorithm and 2-exchange algorithm, are modified to meet the requirements of digital printing environment.In addition, considering the real digital printing factory, we design an automated nesting process to solve practical problems in order to generate the automatic result of the nesting, so that the factory can produce nesting result without human interaction, and the system can select appropriate algorithm according to the order flow automatically.The system has great reference value for digital printing factories, In this paper, experimental results show the effectiveness and superiority of the algorithm.
