With the industrialization and modernization, chemical corporations havebecome the main pollution producers and social concern in the today’s sustainablesociety. Nowadays, widespread discussion is on the topic that the pollutions fromchemical enterprises have done severe damages to water resources in water sourcearea. For example, Incident about phenol into Xin’an River aroused strong oppositionfrom the community. Thus, the improvements of corporate environmental behaviorare related to its survival and development in the competitive market. However, driving factors related to corporate environmental behavior intentions are various, different scholars hold different opinions and classification method. Therefore, thisstudy puts forward three research questions under the background of chemicalcorporations in water source area: analysis on dimensions and composition ofchemical corporate environmental behavior intentions, analysis on the relationsbetween internal and external stakeholders and corporate environmental behaviorintentions, comparative analysis on the relations between different enterprisecharacteristics and corporate environmental behavior intentions. On the basis of existing literature review, this study constructs a theoreticalmodel to analyze the relations between internal stakeholders, external stakeholdersand corporate environmental decision-making behavior intentions, and then makesassumptions. The model contains explanatory variables, explained variable andcontrol variables. The explanatory variables mean internal stakeholders (managers’environmental attitudes, employees’ environmental attitudes) and externalstakeholders (government policies, public stakeholders’pressure, market stakeholders’pressure). The explained variable is corporate environmental decision-makingbehavior intentions, including positive environmental decision-making behaviorintention and responsive environmental decision-making behavior intention. Thecontrol variable means corporate characteristics, including corporate age andcorporate scale. This paper adopts a quantitative empirical analysis method to testhypotheses. Firstly, design the metrics of each variable; secondly, descriptivelyanalyze the data and use factor analysis method to examine the dimensions of externalstakeholders, internal stakeholders and corporate environmental decision-making behavior; thirdly, use multiple regression method and typical case study to testhypothesis.Based on the empirical study, the conclusions are as follows: Firstly, there aretwo dimensions of corporate environmental decision-making behavior, namelypositive corporate environmental decision-making behavior and responsiveenvironmental decision-making behavior. Secondly, internal and external stakeholdersin different dimensions affect different corporate environmental decision-makingbehaviors. Namely managers’ environmental attitude, public pressure, marketstakeholders have a positive impact on positive corporate environmentaldecision-making behavior. Managers’ environmental attitudes, employees’environmental attitudes, government policies, market stakeholders have a positiveimpact on responsive corporate environmental decision-making behavior. Finally, thesize of the corporation also affects corporate environmental decision-making behavior, large and medium-sized chemical companies exhibit better environmental behaviorsthan micro and small chemical companies. There exist some differences between theresults of multiple cases study and those of quantitative study, but conclusions fromcase study can further verify the hypothesis. We can find that corporate environmentaldecision-making behaviors and their influencing factors in large chemical enterpriseshave similarities, and internal stakeholders, external stakeholders have positiveinfluence on corporate environmental decision-making behavior.
