In the silk reel process, silk reeling and re-reeling were combined realizing short-processsilk reeling, and conventional steam pipes radiation drying was replaced by IR dryingtechnology to dry the silk reeled on the grand-reel. The repeat process of balance of silk sliceson small reels, the vacuum permeation treatment of silk slices on small reels and re-reelingwere canceled to reduce manufacturing procedure, labor cost, energy consumption andpollution. This study laid the foundation for high efficiency and low-energy production ofskein raw silk.Firstly, the prototype grand-reel silk reeling machine was designed and the silk slices wasdried by IR drying tube. The influences of different dryer’s parameters on moisture regain ofsilk slices were studied by changing parameters of tube power, tube position and radiationdistance, and the optimized technical parameters for dryer were based on the results of theexperiment. Secondly, XRD, FTIR and XL-2tensile testers were used to test themicrostructure, physical and chemical properties of raw silk samples which were produced bytwo silk reeling techniques. In addition, the silk which was produced by short-process silkreeling of infrared drying technique was treated with infrared radiation in different time, thestructure and mechanical property of these silk samples were tested to analyze the influence ofcontinuum infrared radiation on silk in the short-process silk reeling of infrared dryingtechnique. At last, the automatic silk reeling machine was reformed based on the success ofprototype test and used for actual production. Then the raw silk produced by reformedautomatic silk reeling machine were comprehensive evaluated to study the feasibility of theshort-process silk reeling of infrared drying technique in practical application.The results showed: the prototype grand-reel silk reeling machine which installed the IRdrying tube could realize short-process silk reeling process. The power and position of IRheating tube had a significant influence on the moisture regain of silk slices. The experimentshowed that for raw silk of20/22D, the best temperature in the prototype grand-reel silk reeling machine was34~36℃, and formed well. The indexes of the raw silk produced byshort-process silk reeling technology with infrared drying were similar to the raw silkproduced by conventional silk reeling process, which indicated that the feasibility ofshort-process silk reeling of infrared drying technique. The results of actual mass productionshowed that the short-process silk reeling of infrared drying technique can reduce60%of theenergy consumption and20%of the labor, and the quality of the raw silk was similar to theraw silk produced by conventional silk reeling process, so it met the actual productionrequirements.
