Abstract/Summary:
Snow ground is one of the popular operational environment. With thedevelopment of a variety of detection technology, the requirement for snowcamouflage materials is more and more urgent. It is demanded high reflectance bothin the visible region and ultraviolet region (especially in300-400nm) so that thecamouflage material is practically indistinguishable from the snow no matter in thedaylight appearance or with a UV filter. It is a long time for the study on snowcamouflage materials at home and abroad. The existing camouflage materials mainlyinclude snow camouflage coatings, camouflage fiber, camouflage netting and whiteUV fluorescent dyes, but most of those materials are used to disguise large vehicles, guns, and military equipments with the defects of poor durability, complicatedpreparation technology, high demands on the base material and so on, and thecamouflage materials used for individual soldier are rarely been reported. On the basis of UV-reflectance values, nano-SiO2and nano-MgO were selectedfrom a variety of white inorganic nanoparticles to serve as white pigments in ourstudy. Different kinds of printed polyester fabrics with snow camouflage wereprepared by pigment printing technology and the influences of pigments and binderson snow camouflage properties were investigated. Meanwhile, the UV protectiveproperties, whiteness, handle, moisture permeability, and soaping resistance of theprinted fabrics were characterized as well. The detailed results were presented as following:(1) When the nano-SiO2andnano-MgO pigments were used as pigments alone in the printing formulation, thereare some defects against snow camouflage properties of printed fabrics in the UVregion from250to400nm. However, When the nano-SiO2and nano-MgO weremixed with weight ratio of2:1, printed fabric would get better snow camouflageeffect in ultraviolet region with more than80%of UV-reflectivity;(2) Both thecompatibility of pigments and binders and the dosage of binders are important to the snow camouflage properties, so SOF-APL was chosen as binder and the printedfabrics with5%SOF-APL binder had better snow camouflage effect;(3) The printedsnow camouflage fabric with SiO2/MgO as mixed pigments had the T(UVA)AVvalueless than3.16%, and the UPF value up to368, which indicated that the printed fabrichad better UV-reflectance properties than those with the nano-SiO2and nano-MgO aspigments alone.
