Aminonitrothiazole, also be called2-amino-5-nitrothiazole, is an important intermediate forsynthesis of dyes and pharmaceutical, especially for preparation of disperse azo dyes containingheterocyclic structure. On the background of upgrading and reconstructing aminonitrothiazoleproduction workshop of**Synthetic Dye Corporation, a new process was designed forincreasing the aminonitrothiazole production capacity. Reconstruction of the old chlorinationprocess and design of the batch control process were mainly researched for the new process.In reconstruction of the chlorination engineering, advantages and disadvantages of many typesof evaporator, was core equipment, included jacket, vertical tube bundle, bayonet bundle, kettleand coil-in-bath were analyzed. A type called coil-in-bath was chosen for a further design.Simple fluid model and heat transfer model were established and calculated for the coil-in-bathevaporator to confirm process parameters. After a desired mechanical design, a new liquidchlorine evaporator which could be disassembled completely when it needed cleaning andmaintenance was provided. Automatic control process of liquid chlorine continuous gasificationwas designed in detail based on the new evaporator.The batch control process of the production workshop was designed after the process flowdiagram established. With the concept of time balance, batch control time balance diagram wasdrawn after time was balanced for all of the process equipment. On the diagram the progress ofproduction could be confirmed easily. Process&Instrument diagram had also been completedbefore a normal brief run and shutdown scheme was organized. The batch control process couldreduce the number of operators in the workshop, keep the operators away from dangerous,increase productivity and make the product quality stable.Finally, the design specification of500tons per annual aminonitrothiazole productionworkshop was provided. In the specification, non-patent technology which belonged to ourresearch group was chosen as production method. Based on the design parameters those werecollected by experiments, mass balance and energy balance which could be used in designingnonstandard equipment and choosing standard equipment were calculated in detail. Process&Instrument diagram and layout diagram of aminonitrothiazole production workshop weredesigned in referring to national and departmental standards. Through the economic estimationthe paper got the conclusion that the product would have a larger profit. A brief scheme dealt with “three wastes” was also provided.
