In this work, the alkaline calcium bentonite(ACB) was modified by methyl acrylic acid(MAA), the prepared samples were characterized using FTIR, XRD and so on, which showed that the ACB was exfoliated through the volume effect of MAA and the energy released by neutralization reaction. The MAA was chemically bonded on the layers of bentonite to form the methyl acrylic acid bentonite owning multi- "tentacles"(MAABMT). In order to get the conditions for producing the MAABMT, the relationship between technical conditions and the structure of MAABMT was investigated by changing the different process parameters. And a novel PAA superabsorbent composite with a "ultrahigh" content of MAABMT was synthesized in aqueous solution. The optimum conditions on the high water absorbency was received under accurately controlling in our laboratory by taking the crosslinker content, the initiator content, the MAABMT content and the neutralization degree to the ratio of the monomer(acrylic acid) in consideration, corresponding to the high water absorbency of 1287g/g in distilled water with better water retention, compared with that of the PAA.Then we discussed that the influence of the amount, structure and property of tentacles on the compatibility between bentonite and PAA, which suggested that the compatility of superabsorbent composite was greatly improved by the MAABMT.The MAABMT was used in its removal of Cu2+ and methylene blue from aqueous solution, the main factors of adsorbent dosage, contact time temperature and the structure and the amount of tentacles of MAABMT were investigated. The result showed that the MAABMT is good adsorbent for the removal of Cu2+ and methylene blue at the same time.
