Diet absoutly is a big deal in people’s daily life. There is an common saying says : “Seven necessities in life, which are firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar and tea.” For diet cannot be ignored during daily life, it has extreme universality, therefore it gets highly attention by rulers in the past dynasties. China is famous for its consummate diet system from ancient times, diet regulated by both etiquette and law which is an important feature in the ancient Chinese diet system. Ancient etiquette comes from diet, while it becomes the general law of adjusting society, it again makes specification on palace banquet, sacrifice food, diet etiquette, etc. Meanwhile, rulers apply legal means to guarantee effective implementation of diet ritual system, conduct specification on hygiene and food safety, food monopoly system up to the court down to the folk. Diet, it’s not only the simple needs for dealing with hunger in the ancient China, but also a carrier of ethical education and ideas. There’re lots of parts in the ancient diet ritual system which deserve our reference, what’ more, they may inspire us to deal with increasingly serious food safety problems at present.
