| Inner Mongolia’s Baiyun Ebo REE-Nb-Fe deposit is the world’s largest REE deposit, which huge iron, rare earths and niobium polymetallic is unique to China. The reserve of rare earth is considered the first in the world; niobium and thorium reserves are ranked the second place. The average associated radioactive thorium of Banyan Obo is 0.04%, is typical natural associated mineral. The mining process would generate a lot of soot and residue, resulting in radioactive pollution on the surrounding environment. The author monitored the Baiyun Ebo iron ore (West ore) mining process, operated its level of radioactive contamination. With the help of y dose rate meter, spectrum analyzer, low background α, β measuring instrument, this paper conducted direct survey on the mining scene. At the same time, a series of laboratory analysis methods have been used towards representative samples. Eventually, detailed monitoring results have been obtained. By comparing these monitoring results with national standards, the author concluded that the Baiyun Ebo iron ore (West mine) mining process did not have much impact on groundwater, however the surrounding air and soil does have a certain radiological impact. According to the actual situation, this paper recommends some appropriate protective measures. For instance, protective clothing against radioactive contamination should be introduced to staff, improving the Baiyun Ebo iron ore (West mine) management rules and regulations, choosing suitable species in order to restoring vegetation. The monitoring and analysis of Baotou Baiyun Ebo iron ore (West mine) radioactive contamination, provided strong support for the further supervision and management of the environmental protection. |
