The conversion of sulfer dioxide flue gas with high concentration most adopts dilution and preconversion technologies at home and abroad, which have several deficiencies such as longer technical route, the lower rate of heat utilization and the higher initial outlay. In this paper, based on the investigation of the sulfur dioxide conversion processes at home and abroad including the influence factors of sulfur dioxide conversion, transformation mechanism and so on, the two layers of transformation was proposed to simplify the conversion process, in which the heat transformation was carried out by hot air circulation, and the isothermal of temperature gradient was maintained at transformation layers so as to form isothermal surface within the transformation layer from top to bottom and raise the transformation rate of single balance layer. At the same time, the hot air transferred was used to produce steam that could recycle the waste heat in conversion system, which would increas the economic benefit of sulfur dioxide conversion system. This design has been applied in the actual production, and achieved the desired effects.
