The selection of reasonable and effective methods of security risk assessment method was critical in the technologic hazard analysis. The hazard and operability analysis(HAZOP), the fault tree analysis (FTA), layer of protection analysis (LOPA) as important methods of safety evaluation had been widely used to risk assessments of project safety in recent years. For strong subjectivity, HAZOP analysis for complex scene analysis and cannot determine the effectiveness of protection faults, the security risk assessment method was proposed that was combined FTA, LOPA and HAZOP——as much as possible accident risks was identified by HAZOP, and the level of risk was determined from the perspective of risk matrix. Then, accident scenarios of higher risk was analysis by FTA, Through failure events and the logical relationship between various factors, to find the effective way to solve the problem. Third, on the basis of HAZOP analysis on high-risk event layer of protection analysis, determine the effectiveness of risk control measures and perfect the HAZOP analysis results, reduce the risk to manageable. Finally, in the background of a new styrene plant of PetroChina, it was indicated that improved HAZOP analysis technology was more convenient and efficient for security risk assessment process, and evaluation results was more comprehensive and detailed.
