The technology of sheet metal hydroforming is new plastic process technology, which is rapid developed in recent decades. It can achieve the forming of complicated thin sheet metal, get good quality part and save much cost of model. Market requirement of small batch and multi-varieties?promotes the application of the technology of sheet metal hydroforming. But it is difficultly to define process parameters such as loading path of hydraulic pressure, blank holder force. To get the suitable process parameters in production, traditional method is doing large and repeated experiments. But it costs a mass of time and resource. Computer Aided Engineering can help designer solve this problem.This research is supported by NSF project "The Independent Research of High-speed Simulation and Optimal Process Design aiming at the Formability of Automobile Panel" (NO:50575080). Aiming at characteristics of sheet metal hydroforming, pre-process system for sheet metal hydroforming simulation based on UG NX has been developed.This research puts forward design thought of pre-process system and analyses system function demand according to process of sheet metal hydroforming and?analysis flow of finite element simulation. And paper introduces data processing methods of pre-process system based on characteristics of UG system. Structure frame of system is also designed.Some key technologies of the pre-process system are studied in this paper. Principle of meshing blank is defined and?gridding parameters of mould are optimized. For two kind of different hydroforming ways (Hydroforming & HydroDrawing), the problem of tools automatic assembly, load of hydraulic pressure and definition of blank holder force are respectively solved.In the end of paper, two typical automobiles cover--- car fender and car roof panel are taken examples, using this system to build analysis mould of finite element, and using FASTAMP software to calculate and display results.?The massive tests indicated that this system has traits of friendly interface, simple operations, clear flow, strong function and stable?capability.
