From a practical point of view, how to carry out ecologicalcivilization construction in the new historical period is one of theimportant theoretical and practical issues on building socialism withChinese characteristics in China. On the one hand China'sindustrialization and urbanization is still accelerating, the destruction ofthe ecological environment is still spreading unavoidably; on the otherhand the socialist market economy is gradually improving the process,and to strengthen the protection of the ecological environment with amarket economy approach and philosophy is one possible way.Meanwhile, what the other countries do is not fully suitable for China'snational conditions, therefore, it is theoretical and practical to study howto carry out ecological civilization construction under the socialist marketeconomy.Based on further understanding of ecological civilization, the articlestates in detail the intension and patterns about ecological civilizationconstruction in today's China, with the main theoretical basis andguidance particularly related. And it talks over the nature and connotationof the socialist market economy, analyzes the main directions and trendsof the development of socialist market economy in the background ofecological civilization construction, and further discusses the challengesthat the ecological civilization faces with the development of the socialistmarket economy. Finally, based on the general background of thedevelopment of the socialist market economy, the essay puts forward thegoal of building ecological civilization in socialist market economy, theaims and patterns of establishing ecological civilization community, andso on.
