Double-negative metamaterials (DNMs) is a kind of special artificial material for the real parts of its permittivity and permeability are negative. Compared with common materials, electromagnetic waves transmitted in such material will behave some fantastic phenomena, such as negative Snell refraction, reversed Doppler effect, reversed Cherenkov radition, and so on. The discovery of DNMs has been regarded as one of the ten most significant discoveries in seience community by the magazine《Science》in 2003, and has been one of the front and focusing areas in Physics and Electromagnetics research.Cherenkov radiation (CR), a special kind of electromagnetic energy radiated by charged particles, occurs when the speed of charged particles is faster than the phase velocity of light in the medium. In the DNMs, Cherenkov radiation will show a completely different situations, that is, reversed Cherenkov radiation.Based on classical electromagnetic theory and the existing research results of the Cherenkov radiation, this paper systematically analyzad the Cherenkov radiation in isotropic and anisotropic DNMs, and discussed the effects of the material parameters on the total radiated energy. The thesis is organized as follows:(1) In chapter two, on the basis of the classical theory of the Cherenkov radiation, the analytical expressions for the CR conditions in unbounded isotropic medium or half space medium are derived. It is verified that the directions of the wave vector and power propagation are reversed. Finally, the effect of the material parameters on the total radiated energy is investigated.(2) In chapter three, the Cherenkov radiation in dispersive isotropic DNMs is analyzed, and the relationship between the distribution of spectrum and the material parameters is investigated, then the effects of the material parameters on the total radiated energy in dispersive isotropic DNMs is researched.(3) Finally, the Cherenkov radiation in anisotropic DNMs is analyzed, the analytical expressions for the total radiated energy of Cherenkov radiation in the uniaxial electricity anisotropic DNMs and the uniaxial magnetic anisotropic DNMs are respectively derived. At last the effects of the material parameters on the total radiated energy in this situation is discussed.(4) In chapter five, this paper discussed how to get the material parametersof the DNMs is discussed. A sort of double-negative material is simulated in computer, the material parameters is obtained and the total radiated energy of the Cherenkov in this DNMs is discussed.
