Ancient Chinese Number theory was developed, but no prime. Prime number was introduced into China by missionaries between Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, which first appeared in Shulijingyun(《数理精蕴》)PartⅡ.Vol38 and was translated into Shugen. This thesis mainly discusses the discriminations,properties and use of prime numbers in late Qing Dynasty, the main jobs of the thesis are as follows.Firstly, the background of introduction of prime studies in detail. According to the analysis of the social and academic background, it is ready for discussing the influence of chinese traditional maths after absorbing prime numbers systematically.Secondly, Li Shanlan,Fang Shirong and Hua Hengfang's discrimination of prime number in detail, and the connection of their discriminations.Thirdly, this thesis studies the work of properties of prime numbers in late Qing Dynasty in detail, such as Shugenyangu(《数根演古》),Qiuchengshufa(《求乘数法》)Fourthly, this thesis studies the use of prime to solve the problem of chinese traditional maths after absorbing prime numbers.Finally, on a relevant work basis, the author will evaluate the accomplishments and deficiencies of the studies of prime numbers of mathematicians in late Qing Dynasty.
