Feenberg's Critical Theory of Technology treats the Critical Theory of Technology of Frankfurt School as research starting point, provides further thinking about technological progress and society relations. Feenberg introduced"technical code"concept to explain the process of the realization of interests in the course of forming technology and reflects the complexity of technology diversity. He designs an all-around investigation frame namely Instrumentalization Theory to illustrate technology is social co-construction, he criticizes unilateral understanding of technology, and emphasizes social characteristics of technology. He advocates the real problem is not sustaining or opposing technology, but the diverse technology that we have to choose from. Feenberg proposed through public participation in technical design to change the Technical Code, and promote the democratization of technology. And through the democratization of technology trend the alternative modernity. This paper first digs out the defects of both different technical theories: Instrumental Theory of Technology and Substantive Theory of Technology by comparing and analysis them to explain the overstep of Feenberg's Critical Theory of Technology. Then combing Feenberg's Critical Theory of Technology, extract the basic dimensions theoretic traits and basic position in that theory. I hope this trial of probing into Feenberg's theory can provide a constructive academic reference and theory model for solving problems existed in modern times.
