The meteorological data is known as its continuity and great capacity. How to use the data in historical database, how to excavate deep level information for assisting decision-making, how to convert traditional version documents to enrich visualization performances, and how to improve efficiency in database indexing, those are the most important problems that we should face to.Geographical Information System is a kind of modern sciences and technologies, which has strong data handling ability, spatial analysis function and plentiful visualization performances. Those advantages make it deeply developed in every field, the problems in meteorological field that we should face to can be solved soon. So it has a fine application prospect for GIS used in meteorological field.This paper is based on the project named"Waterlog and Watershed Areal service system based on GIS", which is subsidized by NMC (National meteorological center). Two modules are selected as major study subjects: Watershed Areal data visualization; Watershed Areal retrieval ,visualization and analysis. Make an intensive study of pertinent technologies and processes. The major works are:1,Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the Watershed Areal service system, and then give out the overall design of this system, meanwhile have a research on some important technologies of the system.2,According to characteristics of Watershed Areal text data, study and plan the Data Support Model, which can restore the original effect of Micaps data and make them with features of spatial data; furthermore, have a research on the calculation method of Watershed Areal; and then put forward the composite label technology to label much more information on Watershed Areal features.3,Design and achieve the retrieval of Watershed Areal, which includes the selection of Watershed Areal stops, and the design and achievement of meteorological features; at the same time, search results are visualized in the way of graghs.4,Give an achievement to an impotant analysis service, which is Watershed Areal affected range analysis; and with researches on Word document automatic implement technology, have an achievement to automatic output of the result of Watershed Areal affected range analysis.
