Chemical communication plays significant roles in animal behavior, especially for the rodents. In previous studies, root voles(Microtus oeconomu) can get the information of opposite sex's familiarity and social grade according to their recognition of odor to choose mate.which shows that urine plays an important part in the individual identify of root voles(Microtus oeconomu).Regarding urine as odor source, the thesis studies root voles's recognition of odor by means of ethology.By tne way of immunochemistry, the thesis probe into the root vole's accessory olfactory bulb(AOB) neuron activities after being stimulated by different odor source, which preliminarily connect the recognition of mate choice of root voles with accessory olfactory bulb(AOB) neuron activities, the important receptor in vomeronasal organ system..The conclusions are as follows:1,On the condition of contacting the urine directly, the thesis probe into the recognition of choice of male root voles to the female root voles of different familiarity and different copulation procreating experiences by studying the behavior of the male root voles after being stimulated by the odor of their mate, strange virgin female root voles and strange procreated female root voles. The results of the research shows that the male root vole's behavior response difference to their mates, strange virgin female root voles and strange procreated female root voles is not notable.2.On the condition of contacting the urine directly, the thesis probe into the recognition of choice of female root voles to the male root voles of different familiarity and different copulation procreating experiences by studying the behavior of the female root voles after being stimulated by the odor of their mate, strange unbred male root voles and strange already-bred male root voles. The results of the research shows that on the condition of the experiment, the female root voles is inclined to choosing the mate more familiar to them, while their behavior difference to the recognition of odor of strange unbred male root voles and strange already-bred male root voles is not notable. As a result, the conclusion is that the male root vole's copulation experience doesn't have notable influnce on the mate choice of the female root voles.3.The research on the root vole's accessory olfactory bulb(AOB) neuron activities.Regarding Fos as the symbol of the neuron activities, the thesis finds that after the male root voles are separately stimulated by their mate, strange virgin female root voles and strange procreated female root voles, there is not obvious difference between their quantity of Fos masculine neuron in mitral cell layer of accessory olfactory bulb(AOB) and that in granular cell layer of accessory olfactory bulb(AOB). Compared to being stimulating by the urine of the strange male root voles, the female root vole's quantity of Fos masculine neuron in accessory olfactory bulb(AOB) increases obviousely after being stimulated by the urine of their mate.Wle root voles are stimulated by strange already-bred male Microtus oeconomus and strange unbred male root voles, the difference of the c-fos in accessory olfactory bulb(AOB) in these two situation is not notbale. Therefore, the familiarity, copulation and procreating experience of the female root voles don't have obvious influnce on the mate choice of male root voles:while when the female root voles choose their mate, they are inclined to choosing their mate.
