Development Potential Of Marine Functional Zones For Evaluation Studies

National Marine Functional Zoning has been implemented for six years by now, and it is about to be modified due to the variation of the sea resources, the dimensions and extent of the exploitation and use of marine, and the requirement of national socio-economic development. There is a pressing need to assess the exploration potential of marine functional zonation. Furthermore, it is required intensely by the sustaining development of marine economy, the farther exploration of ocean, and the pressure relief of marine resources and environment.In this study, the conception and connotations of exploration potential of marine functional zone were proposed and explained, and especially with the effort to analyze the exploration potential of marine functional zone composition, summarize the marine functional zones of the exploration type. And discuss the assessment method for the exploration potential of marine functional zone. The assessment indicator was screened, by applying analytic hierarchy process to ascertain the weights of the assessment indicators. Then the indicator system for assessing the exploration potential of marine functional zone is established, and the exploration potential of the portfolio port functional zones in Qinhuangdao, Tangshan, Tianjin and Huanghua elementarily were assessed using the indicator system.According to the study, the indicator system and the assessment method can be used to assess the exploration potential of marine functional zone integrating quantitative with qualitative analysis. The results can give support to assess the scientificity of division, constitute of criterion system and modify the marine functional zonation.
