Ground fracture is one kind of geological calamity of ground surface deformation. It is of important significance to the development of the work of disaster prevention and reduction that analyzing and studying the mechanism and the development rule of the ground fracture, grasping its moving trend.Firstly, this paper summarized three distributing characteristics of city's ground fracture by collecting relative materials. On this basis, the cause of special distribution have been analyzed from aspect of urban geological environmental background (geotectonic movement at bottom, compaction by losing water content at middle part and hard soil layer at top part), and ground fracture of Xi'an has been taken as an example. Meanwhile, the article summarized the measure of preventing and curing urban ground fracture, proposed the topsoil layer, as natural factor, is the medium environment to influence the intensity of ground fracture movement, and using cohesiveless loose sand and gravel to replace hard soil layer in engineering can lighten and reduce the ground fracture disaster.Secondly, also the most important of the paper, is the field seepage test, on the collapsible loess site that crossed ground fracture. The test has been done to simulate the movement of ground fracture after surface water soaking in. The test result has been described and the causes of differential subsidence on the bottom of test pit have been analyzed from two aspects (deformation of loess collapse and slip and subside of wet soil mass along fracture). On this basis, the article summarized that Surface water and ground fracture in the activities is to promote mutual interaction. At last, the measures of preventing and reducing the damage of movement trigged by water have been summarized.
