In this dissertation, the radial vircator is investigated by means of PIC simulation with some of the results analysed theoretically.A numerical simulation study of the high power microwave generation from the vircator is carried out by a 3D PIC code named CHIPIC.First, the 3D PIC code is employed to research into the change of the oscillating frequency of the radial vircator when the position of baffle, diode voltage, the distance between cathode and anode and the emitter. The relations of the vircator oscillating frequency with the position of baffle, the diode voltage, the distance between cathode and anode and the emitter are also given. The higher frequency is also analysed theoretically.Second, we simulate the power and mode characteristics. The output microwaves are diagnosed for average power and dominant mode.In the end, the vircator structure is optimized. The simulation results show that: Using 440kV 31kA electron beam, output microwave power 0.69GW with frequency 4.8Hz is obtained. The beam-wave efficiency is about 5%.
