The City of Puyang is located on the northern side of the Yellow River, northeast Henan Province.On September l,1983,State Council authorized to establish Puyang City. Petroleum and the natural gas resources in Puyang City are rich,and Puyang City is the important petroleum and chemical base of Henan Province. Since the reform and opening to the world, Puyang City's urban construction and the social economy has rapidly increased, the gross national product of the whole city amounts to 11.5 billion Yuan in 2000, the gross value of industrial amounts tol3 billion Yuan.Along with the growth of population, the inhabitant living standard enhances unceasingly, water supply and demand contradictory is day by day prominent. At present, the water supply ability is 120,000 m~3/D in the city. In the area of Xincheng, water supply mainly depends on the Yellow River. In recent years, Yellow River frequently flow drying-up and the water pollution on the upstream intensifies unceasingly, and has serious influence for water use in the city. In order to solve this problem, the city plans to construct the underground water source project.The Running Water Company of Puyang City entrusts the Henan Province academy of hydrogeology and engineering geology to probe the situation of hydrogeology in the Liziyuan area, the south of Puyang County, and then get the conclusion that the underground water source in the area suits the domestic water use and industrial water use. According to this conclusion, the underground water resource project of Puyang City is designed by Zhongnan municipal engineering company.According to needs of the domestic water use and industrial water use in the city, and based on the analyses of present water supply and future planning, this paper put forward suitable and feasible countermeasures for meeting needs of water use. The main works are listed as follows:(1)Based on hydrogeologic investigation, the buried condition and thickness and distribution of shallow aquifer, and condition of nourishment, runoff and discharging, dynamic changes and water quality characteristics of shallow groundwater have been mostly found out;(2)Based on the analyses of water quality data, water quality evaluation of shallow groundwater has been carried out. The conclusion is that groundwater in the area meets needs of the domestic water use and industrial water use after a suitable processing;(3)The paper uses the theory of water balance and the disturbance well group to estimate the quantity of groundwater, and puts forward a project scheme for groundwater exploitation;(4)The paper also estimate the environmental influences of the waterhead area, and provides water protection countermeasures for the area.The study develops the second water source and provides water safeguards for improving the living standard of people and social economy development in the City of Puyang.
