With the rapid development of the Remote Sensing (RS) technology, the RS imagery with the higher resolution is more beneficial for us to get even more abundant information about ground object. At present, the research on the terrain information acquisition plays an important role in those countries with highly developed aerial and space RS technology. Acquiring terrain information timely, accurately and reliably, and supervising dynamic environment work well in military application.Although the interpretation and draughting history of the RS image has been for one and a half century, it developed very slowly. With the emgergence of new theories and technologies in photogrammetry, the production mode in the phtogrammetry has completed the transformation from the analytical mapping to the digital mapping gradually. Meanwhile, the military surveying and mapping supporting bureau has a stronger and stronger dependence on the digital map in the new period. So every surveying and mapping group in the army has transformed to produce digital maps. In the traditional photogrammetry, the office interpretation and draughting and field inspection are adopted in the production. The shortcomings of this method are: the slow speed in drawing, the difficulty in modification, the inaccuracy and uncertainty in the symbol size, and the non-digitization in production. So it is outdated.In view of the real need in improving the interpretation and draughting efficiency and aiming at solving the interpretation and draughting problems for military objects and terrain objects in the RS imagery, the research focuses in the thesis include the following components: the data geometric correction flow, the RS image terrain information acquisition technology, the DEM quality check method, the design for each kind of terrain symbol database. Finally a RS image digital interpretation and draughting system is accomplished based on the above work .
