Selection for financial facilities is the selecting process for financial structure that is under some economical and social condition. Because of the market competition and the complex socioeconomic environment, it is very important to select proper location for financial facilities. With the new demands , the traditional methods for location selection reveal some shortcoming: there is obvious difference between the abstract mathematical models and the practicalities; it is very hard to consider all the complex and abstract factors with the traditional methods; the abundant data can not be organized and analyzed efficiently; the traditional methods can not provide the decision-makers some visual and interactive tools to analyze the location problems.With the development of Geographical Information System (GIS), especially Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS), which integrates GIS and modeling technology, is introduced to solve location decision problems, there is a new way to solve the difficulties baffling the traditional methods. However, the researches of spatial decision support system for location selection and their applications are still not so perfect to be used widely and deeply.Considering the related researches of present, most of them are discussing some specific models and analyzing some concrete problems; but few of them probe the characters of the financial facilities and research how to design a integrated SDSS for location selection. When designing a SDSS for location selection, how to choose the influencing factors of the location? which analytical models shall we choose? how to integrate the analytical process and the GIS functions? All these problems are still waiting for researching deeply, and are limiting the application of the SDSS for location selection.In this paper, basing on the sticking points and the practical requests of location decision for financial facilities, the author discusses some related problems about location decision for financial facilities and gropes for an integrated method to design a SDSS for location selection. The author divides the whole paper into five parts, each part includes an integrated topic.part one, theory basis. In this part, the author firstly discusses the conceptions of location, location theory, financial geography theory, and points out that many researchers focus on using GIS and SDSS technology to solvelocation decision problems for facilities. Then, the author discusses some topics about GIS and SDSS: the conceptions, development, and the relationship between them. Finally, the author summarizes some traditional methods on location selection and concludes some research results on how to use GIS in analyzing location problems.part two, analyzing the common decision-making process of location for financial facilities. Firstly, this part discusses the common step for location selection for financial facilities, then analyzes intrinsic mechanism and the exterior factors infecting the location. Generally speaking, the exterior factors infecting the location for financial include.- the factors about geographical location, population, corporation , public service establishment, traffic, environment, city planning. The author discuss the impacts of each of them., on the basis of which discusses the calculating formulae of the discrete factors. Finally, on the process of location selection for financial facilities, location evaluation and related models are discusses, the related models includes antitheses, the classificatory grade method, neural network model and so on., then the "demand power" and "supply power", which is associated with the location selection for financial facilities are discussed. The Spatial Efficiency and Spatial Effectiveness .which considered the space reciprocity of some factors , is also brought forward.part three, assistant action of GIS in the process of location selection for financial facilities.
