Automatic Framing System Of The Electronic Version And The Thematic Map Of Officers Atlas Mapping System Design And Realization

There are more varieties of map products with the development of computer and visualization technologies. The electronic atlas is an important new one. It has entirely changed the fashion of map making and representation and has distinct advantage. The use of multimedia technology and multi-data structure, and the development of virtual reality and network technologies make the contents of electronic atlas more abundant and vivid, the representation form more flexible and versatile. The task of designing and making the Electronic Version of Officer Atlas is brought forward under this background. This paper focuses on theories, methods, technologies and examples in the course of designing and making. The main points of this paper are as follows:(1) First, it introduces the basic concept and category of electronic atlas, and then analyzes the difference and relation between it and Geographical Information System (GIS) as well as paper atlas, and lastly explains the actuality of its research and the meaning of studying its design;(2) Secondly, it analyzes the backgrounds and demands of developing the Electronic Version of Officer Atlas, and then demonstrates its characteristics and tasks together with its designing ideas, contents and characteristics, and advances the system structure of it and explicate functions of every part finally;(3) Thirdly, it expounds the theories and principles of automatic map subdivision and realizes automatic map division using MapX control, and at the same time improves the cut-out algorithm of point, line and surface thus acquiring increasing speed and security, and finally transforms the projection of the map and disposes the data by grades, so as to offer the user an efficient automatic map division system.(4) Finally, it expatiates the design of map symbols and representation methods for thematic maps, and then explains the importance of the dynamic symbols and representation method in electronic atlas and analyzes visual variables' influence on symbol design, and at last specializes the choice of representation method with real examples and realizes the thematic mapping system based on MapX control.
