Along with the development of city, advancement of society and popularize of information network technology, the restriction effect from non-environments is getting more importance, and temporal is one of the quite important factors. No doubt, shifting from space to time our attention, setting to research programs of temporal in cities, will have profound significance both in theory and in reality.The content of searching for urban temporal distance mostly includes holistic temporal shape, temporal structure, temporal position and drawing of temporal map and so on. The premise is to segmentalize city area into time units and calculate temporal distance. Definition and classification of time units are proposed in this paper. Principles for segmentalizing city area into time units are included as well. Basically, there are two approaches in scaling temporal distance, namely, method of calculating temporal distance via theoretical formula and the method of gauging temporal distance through fieldwork.This paper took metropolis Guangzhou for a case study, and it was divided into a number of time units firstly. Charted with them, and Guangzhou time units was preliminarily analyzed as well. Secondly, the author introduced the way and the signification of temporal position analyse with examples. Thirdly, taking on-the-spot survey method as a practical tool, the author obtained data of temporal distance between each time unit at the verge of different urban districts and the central time unit of the city. Facilitated with these data, outline chart of temporal distance was pictured. Hence, the current temporal shape of urban area and its law p.d. in Guangzhou was available.
