GIS has been widely applied to disposing coordinate-based geo-spatial data. This paper discussed how to construct the data management and query system of Yunnan Province mineral producing area by using GIS technology. In addition, some important aspects of GIS were discussed in mis paper. In general, these facets, which include getting, disposing, managing attribute data and spatial data, geo-spatial analyst, digital cartography and so on, should be considered when building one GIS application system.This paper first analyzed the need and goal of building the data management and query system of Yunnan Province mineral producing area. Then getting and disposing data for this system was discussed in detail. And finally on the basis of Maplnfo Professional GIS platform the software named the data management and query system of Yunnan Province mineral producing area was developed with oriented object programming technology and Visual C++ 6.0 development tool. With the mature GIS platform supporting the software implemented plenty of function. That will effectively meet the needs of holding mineral resources status for some local governments, resource development departments, resource management departments, resource survey departments. The perfect expansibility of the system ensures the ability to updating and changing with the development of application.
