At present, pile and suction anchor is often employed on ocean platform and wind power generation equipment in the sea, especially pile foundation of wind power generation equipment, which is often large diameter steel pipe pile with diameter exceeding 3meters. Circumstances in the sea is very serious, and load is very complex as well, to ensure normal operation of upper part structure, the pile foundation must possess some horizontal bearing capacity and vertical bearing capacity. So it is necessary to analyze bearing capacity of the pile foundation before construction. Horizontal bearing capacity of traditional pile foundation of ocean platform is calculated according to p-y curve method in API standard of the USA, but p-y curve method is from data of pile with diameter of 0.6m on the spot in Mexico offshore. So whether this method can be employed on pile foundation with diameter of exceeding 3m to get bearing capacity should be made further study. In this paper, finite element method and p-y curve method are both adopted to make analysis on horizontal bearing capacity of large diameter pile.In the first place, damage of pile foundation under lateral load and deflection differential equation of the pile are introduced, theoretical study methods of horizontal bearing capacity of the pile foundation are summarized, and applicability and relative merits of those methods are illustrated.In the second place, basic function of FEM-Plaxis 3D Foundation and model of the soil in the calculation are introduced. Bearing capacity behavior and deformation of the pile with different diameters under lateral load are analyzed by finite element software.Finally, comparing the results of FEM and p-y curve, and according to the calculation result differences of different kinds of pile under lateral load, the main factors are analyzed.
