With increasingly competition in Chinese automotive industry and widely adoption of lean management in supply chain management, all aspects of supply chain operations have been considered by automobile manufacturing firms. Logistics operations with cross-docking have been gradually applied by Chinese automotive industry. In the cross-docking operations, an important issue is how to achieve the optimal delivery scheduling of transportation vehicles to balance inventory costs and transportation costs in order to ensure high service levels and low operation costs. This paper studies the scheduling problem in cross-docking operation of transportation vehicles in distribution of the Y company. We first describe the entire supply chain, including network planning, inventory positioning, production planning, supply chain strategy and related business processes. Then, we develop the core idea of cross-docking operations for solving the problem in the supply chain based on some recent theoretical results. The implementation of cross-docking optimization is discussed and verified using actual data.Although the cross-docking logistics operation in China is only in the initial stage of development, as competitive market of Chinese auto industry becomes more mature, and the domestic automobile logistics enterprises continue to grow, using data and mathematical models to optimize logistics operations of the automobile manufacturing industry to reduce costs and enhance competitiveness has important strategic impact.
