Abstract/Summary:
Our historical research about the development of economy in Ancient Greece was usually focus on a few distinguished citis, such as Athen and Sparta.Little attention was paid to other cities in Ancient Greece, which has left a academic gap.On the other hand, since the research about Ancient Greece always came from the historical documents which came down a long time ago ,especially the documents which were written by some famous writers in Greece,it might contain some mistakes.Excavated by David Moore Robinson between 1928 and 1938,the relic of Olynthus lies on the Chalcidic peninsula have come out.Because of the historical background, the relic of Olynthus preserved much better than others, which made it the best place to investigate.According to the layout and relic,as well as the detailed archaeological report,we can do some research about the development of industry and commerce at that time from a new angle of view.We have found that the domestic industry and business trade was well-developed,which included lots of families in the city. The city planning was also advanced and the real estate transaction frequently happened. The household lived in different parts of the city seemed to follow different economic pattern. In a word,Olynthus was never too poor to refer to,the well-developed city economy had made it just like the star shining in the sky of Ancient Greece.
