Empirical Analysis Of Relationship Between Foreign Trade And Economic Growth In Xinjiang,kashi Region

Kashi region as an important gateway for China's west and opening up, to seize the historical opportunity of Western Development and proposed the development strategy of building Kashi region as the center of gravity position of the central and south Asian economic zone.In this paper, Kashi region import and export trade and economic growth relations as the research object. Focusing on the Kashi's own characteristics of the import and export trade and the role in promoting economic growth and Propose to policy recommendations for speeding up the development of import and export trade in Kashi.Through analysis the data 1996-2008 in Kashi, conclusions as follow: (1) Kashi import and export trade has developed rapidly. It's more than half of GDP. An annual growth rate increase steadily, but the proportion of Xinjiang is still small; (2) In recent years, the degree of dependence on foreign trade and the elasticity of foreign trade increased significantly;the contribution of Kashi and the pull of foreign trade enhance significantly. Exports is the main driver of economic growth. (3) The principal way of foreign trade is frontier trade in Kashi. Continued strong external trade surplus in recent years, but exports mainly low-tech and low added value commodities, such as clothing and shoes, textiles and daily necessities, etc. The distribution of foreign trade over-centralized on Central Asia, and Kyrgyzstan is the most important trading partner. (5) Kashi investment, exports and imports are Significant roles in stimulating GDP of Kashi. Kashi investment, exports and imports each increased 1%, GDP will grow 0.36%, 0.08% and 0.01%; (6) through the Granger causality test that, Kashi's investment led to growth of the GDP, while GDP growth has led accelerated growth in exports, but imports and GDP growth has no causal relationship.
