The development of railway transportation is restricted by insufficient capacity for a long time in China. According to the "Mid-to-Long Term Railway Network Plan", the separation of passenger and freight traffic will come true for most of the railway corridors before 2020.Then, the railway transportation capacity will basically meet the demand of transportation. As the transport demand is increasingly focuse on the level of service rather than the transportation volume, it is urgent for railway to study the marketing strategy under the separation of passenger and freight traffic.Firstly, the basic situation of railway freight transpost market and the the lines that the passage traffic is separated from the freight is analysised. Then the segments and positions the railway transport market is discussed based on cargo volumn prediction. Secondly, based on the summarization of successful experience of freight transport marketing of domestic and foreign, combined with the social and economic development in China, this paper studies the freight transport marketing strategy under the separation of passenger and freight traffic by the SWOT. Thirdly, the design and organization of the railway transport product is studied. Then the optimization model of layout of railway transport product based on the different utilization modes of transport capacity is proposed, a numerical example is solved with Lingo software. Finally, security measures and countermeasures to strengthen cargo marketing is put forward.
