The analysis of a country's foreign trade structure has always been one of the important topics on international trade theory an empirical. The method of technological content of exports is an important prerequisite for measuring a country's foreign trade structure and level. Researching on the method of technological content of exports can analysis and forecast a country's trade so as to provide a theoretical reference for adjusting a country's structure of foreign trade. This paper learned the scholars'researching about this topic at home and abroad. It built the method of measuring technological content of exports from production point of view and based on exports data from 2001 to 2006 and 180 countries to estimate the technological content of exports. On this basis for the reality of China's export trade this paper showed the technical structure of China's export trade through the visual form of the charts and evaluated the technological level of China's export trade. This paper first reviewed the scholars'articles about foreign trade structure and the technological content of exports. Then it sum up the characteristics and limitations of existing researches and on this basis it proposed the method of measuring technological content of exports form production point of view . Using the data of national exports from 2001 to 2006 this paper estimated the technological content of various types of exports. Overall the fifth and seventh and eighth category products which are at high level in range from$1000 to$14000 .The third and sixth category products which belong to medium technological content of exports are at the average level in range from$6000 to$10000 .The zeroth, first ,second and forth category products which belong to low technological content of exports are at the low level in range from$2000 to$6000.Based on the above classification criteria this paper analysis our country's technical structure and technical level from both horizontal and vertical aspects . The main conclusions of this paper are as follows.First, the developed countries'exports with high technological content are much higher than less developed countries. The developed countries'exports with average and low technological content are much higher than less developed countries. However, the proportion of developed countries'exports with low technological content has downward trend from vertical comparison point of view. That is mean the less developed countries'technical structure has improved during the reporting period.Second, the proportion of China's high technological content exports is so high that is close to the level of developed countries. While the proportion of China's average and low technological content exports is so low that is much lower than the level of other less developed countries over the same period. Moreover, the proportion of China's high technological content exports has upward trend during the reporting period and the average technological content exports has been stable and the low technological content exports has declined. This shows that China has access to the development of high technological content exports phase.Third, though China's technical level of exports is at a high level in Asian , it below the world average and are still significant gaps compared with the same level of developed countries. However, the technological level of China's exports has shown strong growth and is close to the world average during the reporting period. This means that China should actively promote international cooperation and exchanges with high technological content of exports. At the same time China should enhance R&G and technological innovation capability of export-oriented enterprises so as to increase the added value of China's exports and international competitiveness of enterprises.
