It is acknowledged all over the world that the development of urbanization plays an important role in the economic development of a country. As for our country, a large agricultural country, it is more important to promote urbanization in the economic development. In the process of urbanization, we should not overlook the problems of urban and rural linking areas emerged from the special environment of our country. Urban and rural linking area is the special product in the process of urbanization in our country, and it becomes the most active area in the process of urbanization. As an extended area of city development, urban and rural linking area becomes more and more active as land appreciation keeps increasing, which benefits from the rapid development of industrial zones and real estate industry. Meanwhile, due to its intercrossing geographical position, it becomes the place with various profits and conflicts, which attracts more and more attention in the society. Based on the development of urbanization of our country, this thesis puts forward the problems existing in the urban and rural linking area, focusing on the causes of the problems, importance of urban and rural linking area in the economic development of our country, and the analysis of some major problems. Finally, this thesis puts forward the thoughts and strategies on the sound development of urban and rural linking area.Part One starts with the review of the history and current situation of urban and rural linking area, i.e. the historical background, connotation and features of urban and rural linking area, and then it introduces the foreign and domestic current situation and model of urban and rural linking area, which is followed by the analysis of the driving forces and importance of urban and rural linking area.Part Two focuses on the analysis of the problems existing in the urban and rural linking area, including the following four problems. The first one is the problem of land circulation, concerning over non-agricultural occupation of agricultural land, serious loss of cultivated land, ambiguous definition of land property right, over land expropriation, improper expansion of public interest, too small amount of compensation fees of land expropriation and single form of compensation. The second one is the problem of identity transformation of farmers, including low degree of social acceptance of the identity transformation of farmers, unavailability of arrangement of farmers after the loss of farmland, and farmers' social security after the loss of farmland. The third one is the problem of self-governance of villagers, including the problem of democratic election, and the problem of household register management. The forth one is the problem of education, including the access to the urban schools, the limited capacity of schools, the limited supporting ability on the part of the government, and the deficiency of non-government funded education. The fifth one is the problem of social security. The sixth one is the problem of sustainable development.Part Three concerns the thoughts and strategies of the development of urban and rural linking area. First, seriously carrying out the current principles and policies is the precondition and guaranty. Second, breaking the dual structure of urban and rural areas and establishing the social security system for the farmers after the loss of land is the fundamental step. Third, land expropriation and management policies should be standardized. Forth, we should build and perfect the citizen society, build rural economic cooperation organization and social cooperation organization and build harmonious communities in urban and rural linking area.
