On Foster's Reconstruction Of Theory Of Metabolic Rift

The harmony of human and nature is the prerequisite for human survival. However, since the Industrial Revolution began, human have utilized the nature more than protecting it, which increases the conflicts of human and nature and leads to various environmental problems. As a result, human now is in a crisis of survival and development. The American eco-Marxist scholar John Bellamy Forster used Marx's eco-thought to have a deep analysis of the relationship of eco-crisis and Capitalism, in the way of interpreting the Marxist text, and he came to a conclusion that the Capitalism is the fundamental causes of eco-crisis.In this paper, the author tries to introduce Forster's criticism of Capitalist ecology to illustrate his reconstruction of theory of Metabolic Rift and foundation of eco-Marxism. From the three aspects, he reveals the capitalist solutions to environmental problems is hypocritical,。Capitalism is causing cracks between man and nature, it is the source of ecological crisis.The theory of Metabolic Rift is the entry point of interpreting Forster's eco-Marxism. Forster reconstructed the theory of Metabolic Rift to reveal that contemporary eco-crisis originated from the theory of Metabolic Rift between the expansionary capitalism and nature. Metabolic Rift is the root of modern ecological crisis. Through the analysis of Max and Engels, combined with his analysis on the concept of material transformation, Foster thought that the essence of today's capitalist society material transformation cracks is not only nature's alienation in the theory of marxism, is also the alienation including natural and social relations. Starting from the theory, The solution to the eco-crisis is to combine environmental justice and revolution of production relations.
