Land is the material base for mankind existence and society development, whosesustainable utilization is an essential aspect to the sustainable development since itacts as a hinge to coordinate population, resource and environment. With thecontinuous increase of population as well as rapid development of industrializationand urbanization, the contradiction between the people and the land has becomeincreasingly conspicuous. It has become an urgent problem to consider how toallocate reasonably the limited land resource among the different industries anddepartments of the nation and to promote the optimal land utilization and sustainabledevelopment.Intensive use of urban land is to study the reasonable degree of urban landdevelopment and utilization, with a focus on exploring the potential of connotation ofurban land's intensive use. Our country is short of land resources, and the urbanizationprocess is speeding up, leading to expansion of non-agricultural construction land'ssevere occupation of agricultural land; meanwhile, the stock of urban land has beenused extensively, with the purpose of protecting land resources and utilizing urbanland efficiently and sufficiently, using land intensively and evaluating its potential hasbecome one urgent task for land workers and academic researchers at present.Wuwei is an important city in Hexi corridor of Gansu province, whose utilizationof land resources is of great blindness, low efficiency and serious ecologicaldegradation. How to allocate rationally the land resource of Wuwei city to maximizethe overall benefits among ecology,economy and the society, is an important issue toresolve to effect the sustainable development. This essay analyses comprehensivelythe current utilization situation as well as the problems, and studies its intensive use.On basis of drawing lessons from relative theories and research methodsconcerning intensive use of urban land domestic and overseas, this essay analyzes thecurrent situation and existing problems of the urban land in our country, goal of urbandevelopment and characteristics of urban land utilization, gives macroscopicallyintensive use of urban land a definition and scientific connotation, and concludes thepattern and type of intensive use of urban land; the present study takes land supplyscarcity theory, land rent and land price theory, land location theory, sustainabledevelopment theory and land reward decreasing theory as theoretical foundation forevaluation, proceeding from the main factor affecting levels of intensive use of urban land, chooses four factor layers, which are land input intensity, land output profit, landutilization intensity and sustainable development of land, and establishes evaluationindex system to evaluate intensive use of each urban land within ranges, withconfirmation of twelve weighted values of the evaluation index.This essay includes 7 chapters:Chapter one: introduction, it introduces theresearch background and significance, summarizes the overall situation of intensiveuse of urban land domestic and overseas, and finally explains the research goal,content and method; Chapter two mainly explores and summarizes relative definitionsand connotations and theoretical bases of urban land intensive use; Chapter threeelaborates mechanisms and models for evaluating urban land intensive use; Chapterfour elaborates construction of evaluation system; Chapter five, the core part in thisessay, carries on positive analysis on urban land intensive use of Wuwei City; Chaptersix analyzes characteristics, problems, causes and strategies of urban land intensiveuse of Wuwei City; Chapter seven makes a conclusion and explains the limitations.This essay makes attempts at following aspects:1) Proceeding from macroscopic prospective, it establishes definitions andconnotations of urban land intensive use;2) Proceeding from factors affecting urban land intensive use, it choosesfour factor layers, which are land input intensity, land output profit, landutilization intensity and sustainable development of land, and establishesevaluation index system and rational standard of indexes to evaluateintensive use of each urban land within ranges.
