| Sugar is a natural sweetener. As an necessity of life and an important input in light industry, sugar and sugar industry play a particularly significant role in an economy.China,an important participant in world sugar market,is not only a major producer and consumer but also a major net importer and the most potential country in sugar consumption. Moreover, the primary sugar producers in China are mostly located in minority regions in Guangxi,Yunnan and Xinjiang Province,so to improve the development of china sugar industry will have a great effect on the advance of economy in less-developed border areas.A prosperous sugar indusry also contributes a lot to the growth of economy and the stabilization of society.Since China's entry into WTO,sugar import has been organized under the framework of TRO (Tarif Rate Quota) and thus trade barriers have dramatically decreased being lower than world average. That implies China will more and more directly face the world sugar market, which is characterized by fierce fluctuation, prevailing protection and unfair competition. Therefore,it is especially necessary to understand and analyze the characteristics of China's sugar trade and the safety of China's sugar imports.Firstly, this paper analyzed the status of sugar production and consumption in China,Found that sugar production in China has extending toward a higher place in recent years, but still can not meet domestic consumer demand. The total consumption of sugar in China is at a level, but per capita consumption is very low, not only below the world average level, but also significantly lower than the average of many developing countries;Secondly,The paper analyzed the status and the characteristics of the sugar imports in China through large amounts of data, then analyzed the competitive advantage and the safety of China's sugar imports. The result showed that the competitive advantage was so poor. In the current circumstances, the import of cheap sugar does not have a significant impact on the domestic sugar industry, but we should prevent the continued expansion of imports from damaging domestic industries;Thirdly, after theretical analyzing the impact of many factors on China's sugar imports,we make an emperical analysis by mutiple regression model, the result shows that production and consumption are the main factors of the sugar imports in China, then further study the relationship between the main factors through the Granger causality test; Finally, suggestions on how to improve the pattern of the improt trade and develop the sugar industry in China. In this dissertation, the aurhor analyzed the import trade features through a lot of charts, then the analysis was based on theoretical and empirical method to demonstrate the factors which affect sugar imports in China. In order to make research findings more useful,we have the emperical analysis step by step. |
