Using remotely sensed imageries of Hohhot captured in 2004 and 2006, we examined the spatial-temporal changes of land use and its effects on landscape pattern and environment. The results as follows:1 .Cropland, grassland, and woodland dominated the land resources of Hohhot; Land use structure of Helin and Qing shuihe similar with each other; except cropland ,grassland area higher in Wuchuan;2.Area occupied by grassland and woodland were changed greatly while cropland was experienced little change over 2 years;3.In general, the degree of land resources utilization in study area was higher than that of national mean value, and was showed to increase in the future;4.Ecological function and environment of the whole region and of each county was improved at different scale.Counties dominated largely by mountain and hill improved environment much more than did counties located mainly in plain.
