The situation of our country is that the population is enough, the soil is scarcity, and the mothball soil is lack. The traditional technology of updating land-use basic map has many disadvantages, they are large working intension, high expenditure, low rate of timeliness and low updating speed, and there is great artificial disturbance also. This has gradually restricted the informatics and scientific management for country resource. The development of aero photography and the appearance of commercial high-resolution satellite image make it possible to update land-use map frequently. Base on RS, the updating method of the basic land-use map is becoming one of the most important study direction in LUCC field over the world. The thesis proposes a technical procedure to update the land-use basic database basing on RS image character information from a practical angle.Based on the analysis and summarizations of researches home and aboard, the concept of change detection are given, processing models and steps are summarized. In the dissertation, existing detection methods are reviewed, basic principles underlying commonly used methods are expounded, and their virtues and shortcomings are analyzed respectively. From the comparison we can draw the conclusion that there is no one method that fits all circumstances. In practice, which method to choose depends on our purposes and data source. Then, the thesis discusses the interrelated technologies of change detection and analyzes the comparison of the multiplicate RS data.Implementing change detection analysis by integrating remote sensing and GIS is one of the development trends. Following this trend, a new detection method based on the integration of RS & GIS is introduced in the thesis. By combing one satellite image and the vector graph after necessary geometric rectification, the land use span is expressed by vector polygon along with raster region. Then the spectrum feature information template with histogram is formed by using the image character information of the span. Finally, the change spans are automatically detected by a vector-raster-integrated method. The method is tested on SPOT5 and QUICKBIRD satellite images and space image of a district in Beijing Huairou and the error precision of the result is below 15%. Change detection method based on historical land use graph avoids the problem of radiation correction and it make fully use of the historical land use vector graph-bank. It is in favor of the historical succession and development of the special vector graph-bank.
