Abstract/Summary:
The overwhelming course of globalization is, in a sense, the course of global communication and diffusion of the consumption society, the consumption culture and its conception representing the intrinsic movement mechanism of the consumption society. In the process of polynary and complex modernization in China, we encounter not only the great challenge of Technology Development Wave and economic globalization, but also the immense impact caused by the globalization of the western consumption culture and its conception. Therefore, it is very important to know similarities and differences concerning the historical evolvement, passing on and historical-social conditions of the consumption culture conception in both China and the Western Countries, which is thought to be fundamental to the research of the new consumption culture with Chinese characteristics.This essay has a clear description of the evolution of the consumer culture conception at different historic stage, summarizes the course, characteristic, orientation, developmental patterns ,reasons and consequence, and at last offers a panoramic concern for a more comprehensive and profound knowing the essence of society and consumption culture in the west.The framework of the paper is : (1) research background, meaning significance, and a literature review ; (2) The consumption culture conception of the ancient western (the conception and the ways it displayed in ancient Greece ,Rome and Middle Ages ); (3)The forming and evolvement of the main consumption culture conception of the western(the conception and the ways it displayed in Pre-Modern Age, Modern Age, and Post-Modern Age);(4) The evolutional law of the consumption culture conception in the west and its reason;(5)Final thoughts? The developmental orientation of the consumption culture conception in the contemporary era.
