With the rapid development of reforming and opening-up China has close communication and cooporation with foerign countries ,and China's international tourism has also flourished , as a result the inter-disciplinary talents who master tourism professional knowledge and skilled English are in great demand. In order to make the students of tourism adapt to the"international"social culture enviroment better , the bilingual teaching applied in tourism major in higher schools has sprung up gradually , and it becomes an inevitable trend. Bilingual teaching includes teaching contents , teaching pattern ,programme designing , teachers training,teaching materials construction,teaching management , teaching assessment and so on .The higher schools have gained some achievements and experience in this field , but there are also many problems to be solved .So the discussions of bilingual teaching applied in tourism major in higher schools have great importance of theory and practice.The article is made up of seven parts, Part One tells the subject background,research condition and the constructure of the article. Part Two illustrates the concept ,feature , theory basis , purpose and influence of bilingual teaching . Part Three introduces the foreign successful bilingual teaching patterns in Canada ,the USA and Singpore,and it also presents the inmature bilingual teaching pattern including infiltration ,conformity,and gradual progress in China ,and finally compares the bilingual teaching patterns between China and foreign countries. Part Four espounds the necessity,purpose and principle of bilingual teaching applied in tourism major in higher schools. Part Five proposes the bilingual teaching patterns and countermeasures that are applied in tourism major in higher schools according to the present teaching situations and problems. Part Six is a case study,with the help of questionaire and interview the article sums up bilingual teaching experience in tourism major linking up the bilingual teaching practice in Tourism College of Liaoning Eastern University . Part Seven summarizes the achievements and shortcomings of bilingual teaching applied in tourism major .
