Rice is one of the staple foods of the human kind. About 3 billion people in the world are fed on rice. Its output of the world and output per hectare are the highest among various kinds of grain crops. With the continuous increase of the world population and demand diversity for rice, the demand for rice is becoming eager and eager and the rice trade is continuing.China is the world's largest rice producer and consumer. About 65%of Chinese people consider it as staple food. Therefore, the rice plays a big role in China's grain safety .Besides ,the rice is one of China's traditional exports and China had been one of the largest three rice exporters of the world. With China's WTO entry and increasingly fierce competition of agricultural products, the competitive advantage of some agricultural products has been weakened. It's estimated that the rice has been the only agricultural product with certain international competitiveness among cereals in the international market.The paper aims to have a better understanding of the current international competitiveness of Chinese rice through analyzing its production, demand, trade and some indicates such as market share, normalized trade balance, revealed comparative advantage and so on. It's concluded that Chinese rice has certain competitive advantage in international market, but its competitive advantage is slight and on decline. The paper, therefore, comprehensively employs the method that combines qualitative and quantitative analysis, and based on theoretical study, it collects large amount of data as well as uses statistical tools to conduct research. It mainly includes:(1)Chraracteristics of Chinese rice trade,and research on international competitiveness of the rice.(2)Based on the theory of international trade,to analyse the influence factor of the competitiveness.(3)To appraising methods to advance international competitiveness of Chinese rice.
