With the continuous development of its economy, China has achieved fast growth in its foreign trade and the utilization of foreign direct investment (FDI). The mutual relationship between FDI and foreign trade is being widely concerned by people. An accurate assessment of this relationship, especially the effects of FDI on the structure of import and export commodities is related to the significant issue of relevant policy making and implementation. The assessment of the effects of FDI on the import and export structure is not only the summary of experiences in utilization of FDI in the past 20 years, but even more the forward exploration for future strategy of the use of foreign capital. There is no doubt that it has a strong theoretical value and practical significance. Based on this, the main content of this article is:First of all, in the theoretical research, this paper sum up the theory of international trade, foreign direct investment, gives a brief review of the relevant theory. After the theoretical analysis, based on the analysis of historical statistics, this article use the data to analyze of FDI in recent years, just as the total amount, industrial distribution, the development of import and export commodity structure.And then, use the econometric models of FDI in China in recent years and China's import and export commodity structure to make a quantitative analysis, that is, the study of the influence of the foreign direct investment on China's import and export of primary products and manufactory goods. The conclusion is FDI play a significant role on China's trade structure changes, and FDI has a largest affect on the import of manufactured goods, followed by the import of primary products, the import of the manufactured goods imports, while there is no significantly affect on the export of primary products. There is a long-term stable relationship between FDI and the import and export of manufactured goods, also the imports of primary products, but not the export of primary products. Finally, based on the results of theoretical studies and econometric analysis's conclusions, give further policy recommendations on the use of the foreign direct investment, and the improve of the structure of China's import and export trade.
