A Study About The Harmonious Development Of Industrialization And Urbanization In Jiangsu Province

Since reform and open up,Jiangsu province has made great achievement in industrialization and at a long time kept on the top in our country.However the urbanization in Jiangsu province lags the industrialization,moreover,the delay of urbanization has been a severe problem in our country all the time.Industrialization and urbanization reflects respectively the change of industrial structure and spatial structure during the course of economy development.They are closely interacted.If the relation of industrialization and urbanization are not harmonious,it will bring on a series of problems socially and economically.Many problems which appear at present,such as unequal distribution of income,dual economic structure,insufficient domestic demand,deteriorated environment and the delay of tertiary industry are closely associated with the unharmonious development of industrialization and urbanization.Therefore,this study not only can instruct the development of the economy in Jiangsu province,but also can use for reference to other provinces in our country.Guided by the theories of development economics,urban economics, regional economics,industrial economics and methods of statistics and econometrics,incorporating the criteria analysis and empirical analysis, this paper takes the development of the industrialization and urbanization as the research object and carries on empirical analysis on Jiangsu province.In this way,it attempts to find out the performance and the reason of the unharmonious development and bring forward corresponding countermeasures to make the two harmonious. Following the summary of the predecessors' researches and theories on the relation between industrialization and urbanization and the performance of the two in our country,this paper discusses the microcosmic mechanism of the harmony of industrialization and urbanization,the macroscopical performance of the two and factors affecting the harmony of the two.And then carries empirical analysis on the course of industrialization,urbanization,the relation of the two and the differences between the three regions in Jiangsu province.Through this study,we can conclude that the industrialization and the urbanization in Jiangsu province were out of joint since 1978 until 2000,from which, the two started to be harmonious.However,the difficulty of transferring residual rural labors,the delay of the tertiary industry and the imbalanced development of the regional economy still hold back the harmonious development of the industrialization and the urbanization.Based on the analysis and conclusion above,the author pointed out three obstacles which hold back the harmonious development of the industrialization and the urbanization:the system which separates the city and the country;the delay of the tertiary industry and the large gap between the three regions.In order to settle about these problems,the government should deepen organizational reform,speed up the development of the tertiary industry and coordinate the regional economy between northern and southern areas.
